| “A GREAT ALBUM BY A GREAT BAND” So read the Mushroom records promo back in 1981. They weren’t wrong. That the Sunnyboys eponymous 1981 debut was an instant and enduring classic has never been in doubt. And now that great album by a great band is available in box set form. To be released November 6 by Warner Music Australia, pre-sales are available now via https://artistfirst.com.au/collections/sunnyboys or https://wma.lnk.to/Sunnyboys45th and all good record stores. The original September 1981 LP has not just been remastered but now an includes an extra track; “Tell Me What You Say”, only available initially as a bonus track on a limited edition 1981 yellow vinyl release of the debut. Additionally, the remastered album now features a 1981 Triple J interview with Jeremy and Peter Oxley spliced between the tracks giving the listener an entirely new listening experience and perspective. Albums 2 & 3 of this 4 x 12” release box set include first-ever vinyl release of the Studio 301 demos recorded earlier in that year. Raw and alive they capture just the band’s 2nd foray into the studio, and it is electric! Side 2 of disc 3 meantime features the band’s 4-song 1980 Phantom Records debut EP in its 1981 remixed form including the original version of the all-time classic “Alone With You”. Finally on disc 4 we get the long lusted after first-ever-vinyl-release of the Triple J live recording of the band in full flight at Sydney’s Governors Pleasure in February 1981. “At times, some shows crossed the threshold into magic. There were a few times, a handful at best, when it was so strong I would have sworn there were five of us on stage. I don’t know what that extra person was or what they played, I just felt an extra presence on stage that was playing a part in all we did, and that part was adding to the intensity, the strength, the joy and the moment. One of those shows was the JJJ live to air recording at the Governors Pleasure in February 1981” – Richard Burgman All up this 4-album set includes 44 tracks, 25 different songs in album, demo and live form, 19 of them having never before been released on vinyl while 14 of them do not feature on the album proper and all bar 3 of the 25 written by singer-guitarist Jeremy Oxley in the previous 12 months, when he was just 18-19 years old. Enough material to fill two studio albums and all of it top shelf. Also included is a 32 page 12” x 12” full colour booklet detailing the rise of Sunnyboys throughout 1980-1981 via a series of archival press clippings, gig listings, promo artwork and reviews, an original 8” x 10” promo photo, the original Mushroom records press release, a personal band Q&A from the time PLUS a bonus Sunnyboys fan club card. “We were always after world domination and Australia is the world to me.. so I’m grateful that we haven’t been forgotten !” – Jeremy Oxley See the Sunnyboys live!
