GLU Michael Shuman (Queens of the Stone Age, Mini Mansions) Releases PONY BOY EP – out Now

GLU, the genre-blending solo project of Michael Shuman (Queens of the Stone Age, Mini Mansions), has released his superb PONY BOY EP on FLG. The EP arrives off the back of a huge summer of UK & EU headline shows, as well as a stand-out performance at this year’s Latitude Festival.

Packed with four irresistible, high-impact tracks, the EP captures a confident and dynamic GLU, showcasing the full breadth of an ever-evolving sound. There’s a striking reimagining of Jennifer Paige’s iconic ’90s hit ‘CRUSH’, transformed into a darker, more cinematic anthem, the punchy, synth-laced title track ‘PONY BOY’, pairing infectious hooks with an honest reflection on being thrust into the spotlight before your time, and ‘LA’ – a warm, nostalgic ode to home that captures the carefree spirit of a California summer, elevated by a stunning guest vocal from lifelong friend Lily James.

Today sees the EP complete with new single ‘BOMBS BELOW’:

“Bombs Below is a ballad about your own personal hell’, explains Shuman. “There is a comfort in basking in that. Ignoring the outside world and accepting those existential feelings of dread. I also wanted something on the EP that was unlike any previous songs I’d put out, yet felt cohesive with the rest of the tunes. Although it was originally a demo intended for Mini Mansions, it still felt relevant to my life today. So I reworked it, changed the lyrics and production, and it came together perfectly as the last song for this third EP.”

GLU first emerged in early 2023 with debut EP MY DEMONS, a raw and revealing release exploring struggle, loss, addiction, and childhood trauma. In 2025, GLU hit a new high point with the single ‘BOOGIE MAN’, an infectious, dance-forward track about losing yourself in the moment and letting go of self-consciousness. Drawing comparisons to Jamiroquai, Gorillaz, and Mac Miller, the song secured a major sync placement in MLB The Show ‘25 alongside Kendrick Lamar &  De La Soul. The track pushed GLU past 3 million global streams.

That momentum has also translated directly to the stage, with tours and headline dates across the UK, Europe, and the US. GLU has toured with The Kills, Blood Red Shoes, Miles Kane & more, alongside UK headline shows of its own. Earlier this year saw GLU support The Blue Stones across three big UK shows including the O2 Forum Kentish Town.

Radio support from BBC Radio 1 and 6 Music, as well as glowing press from the likes of the NME, Rolling Stone & more, has further established GLU as a project operating well beyond “side project” territory.

With its fearless approach to reinvention and emotional honesty, GLU’s continue a year of exciting activity, whilst blurring genres, stripping away pretence, and creating music that feels both personal and relatable.
