Gig Review: Teddy Swims, Margaret Court Arena, 13 July 2024

Teddy Swims has embarked on his “Ive Tried Everything But Therapy” tour with the Australian leg kicking off this weekend but tonight was the first of two shows at Melbourne’s Margaret Court Arena.

First up on the bill tonight, was Aussie songstress Meg Mac. Captivating listeners with her distinctive sound, her music is authentic and raw. Meg Mac’s stage presence exudes confidence and charisma, drawing audiences into her music and gaining more followers along the way.

Swims hits the stage with electrifying energy, a kick to rid his shoes, and with an audience that is clearly eager for what promises to be an unforgettable night. From the moment Teddy Swims appears, his presence commands attention, and that is what he gets from this eager sold out crowd.

Smashing through his set list that includes power numbers such as ‘911’, ‘Devil in a Dress’, ‘Apple Juice’and new song ‘Funeral’, Swims has a effortlessness to his gutsy husky voice. It does seem though, that Swims is in awe of the crowd before him. He mentions multiple times throughout his set, that his fans and music have saved him and he is so appreciative of all those who attended tonight’s show on what was an arctic freezing night in Melbourne town.  Swim’s genuine interactions and heartfelt anecdotes create an intimate atmosphere, making each song feel like a private serenade to every member of the audience.

Musically, Teddy Swims and his band showcase impeccable skill and versatility with each song delivered with soulful vocals and intricate instrumentation that leave the crowd spellbound.

But perhaps the most memorable aspect of Teddy Swims’ tour is the diversity of his followers. The audience reflects a melting pot of ages, backgrounds, all united by a shared love for Teddy’s music.

Ending tonight with his encoe including ‘Tell Me” and most popular tune “Lose Control”, saw a canon blast with confetti and a crowd that certainly got their money’s worth.

Teddy Swims captivated his audience tonight with his raw talent and genuine passion for music. Definitely money well spent and an audience eager to see what’s on the promising horizon for Swims.
