Gig Review: Adam Thompson, Bohemian Rhapsody, Saturday 8 February, Bendigo
The revival of classic music has seen a resurgence of late, especially heightened with movies such as the biopic film Bohemian Rhapsody- Queen hitting our screens. A movie filled with classic Queen hits, that not only cements Queen’s phenomenal catalogue in our hearts, but has awaken another generation to their extraordinary career. What it has also produced, is an extraordinary night’s entertainment in the form of Adam Thompson and his adaption of the film’s score.
Thompson is performing the movie soundtrack live in concert. Being an avid follower of Freddy Mercury, Thompson has been quoted as “I wont let him down” and last night it was Bendigo’s turn to see him prove us right.
With a modest stage, brilliant musicians supporting him and a glamorous (as usual) outfit, Thompson didn’t have to work too hard to get the crowd on their feet. Whilst, I was oogling Thompson’s gold and leopard print lace up’s, it was hard not to be mesmerised by one of Australia’s best frontman.
From the very first chord played, Thompson’s shining persona reached in and grabbed your heart and soul. Thompson has a way of making you feel that you are the only person in the room even turning a concert into an intimate setting, by sitting on the edge of the stage and singing to the crowd below. Bringing the rock in the house down to an acoustic number, Thompson and fellow Chocolate Starfish band member Zak Zedras, brought a sincerity to the night with “Love of my Life” which Mercury would have been truly proud of.
Everyone knows Queen’s classic songs, but hearing them last night with Thompson’s vocals, was truly a superb night of entertainment. With the crowd up on their feet, Thompson along with Zedras certainly entertained and gave the audience a night to remember even topping off the evening with a meet and greet.
If you have a chance to see Adam Thompson’s Bohemian Rhapsody, get on to it. A thoroughly entertaining night that top notch value for money.
